ABOUT D-598: Fenna

     How Fenna lost her arm...

During a particularly brutal rampage brought on by Abaddon, Fenna stood against him as ever to keep him from burning the world into nothingness. His rage was unbridled, and her usual magics couldn't contain him. So, she took to fighting him physically, an act she had long been wary of engaging in for good reason. Though skilled, she faltered just enough for the beast to slip through her defenses, catching her left arm just beyond her shoulder. One twist of his large head was all it took, and Fenna fell. Warden, a long-time ally of hers, managed to arrive on the scene in time to prevent a further fatal blow due to Quilo's timely departure to fetch the Sentinel. Through combined efforts, they managed to place a temporary seal upon Fenna's injury, and cast Abaddon from the icy kingdoms.

Warden worked for days to try and heal Fenna, but it was clear her arm was lost. Once she was stabilized enough to move about on her own again, she sent away the concerned man, and contemplated her next move. It hadn't even been a week before she set out within her forest to locate one of the oldest trees at the heart of the woodland. Not the easiest task, as Quilo often remarked as he accompanied her, for the dense, snowy forest was treacherous to cross without proper gear and skill. Her balance was shot, her body still weak from the injury and not fully recovered. Still, she was determined.

The ancient tree was sentient, having an awareness and magic about it that it used to lure in prey and to communicate with those it deemed worthy of its attentions. Fenna was fortunate enough to have survived attempts at the former in her younger years, and to have grown wise and strong enough to have achieved the latter. She beseeched the great tree, asking it for its aid now that she had lost her arm and was unable to cast her magic or defend this land as she had previously. She pleaded her case for hours, and was forced to wait for days still till the tree came to its decision.

A portion of one of its roots came up out of the ground, a small bud forming along its girth. She plucked the bud, and by the tree's bidding, placed it into her injured shoulder. The following was filled with white-hot pain, agony as the bud quickly sprouted, roots melding in with bone, flesh, nerves, and veins, as interlacing vines and branches began to grow.
