Roulette Profilename by b4dly-dr4wn

whistling winds rolls through the land; a distant beast howls to the blue moon

“The Child of Badlands, who presides over godless wilds and untamed frontiers, lurking with prowling animals and desperate bandits cloaked in the dead of night. He sweeps in like a silent shadow, and vanishes like a whisper in the darkness.”

 The Vagabond
he/him || page || outlaw

Manifested from the restless nightmares of travelers trying to sleep in the open wilds, Roulette embodies all there is to fear in the cold dark badlands; Thieves, Outlaws, deadly animals, and the eerie blue moon ever-hanging overhead. He is a silent and vengeful shadow lurking over the lands, who appears like a ghost to haunt any travellers who pass through.

Although his nightmare itself is quite ancient and powerful, and has manifested in the hearts of many throughout time, something had been eating away at his power, temporarily trapping him in Styxling form. It was only by the offer of the eldritch being known as Catharsis- to live at the base of the Nightmare Tree, among the twisted paths into the deep layers of the Labyrinth- that fed the starving nightmare enough raw fear to return him to his former glory. Even still, when he leaves the Labyrinth he rapidly loses his strength, almost immediately reverting to this miniscule and powerless form.
Whatever curse has afflicted him, it also seems to have stolen his voice. Even when given pen and paper, he does not seem willing nor capable of putting his thoughts to words. The most he is ever known to communicate is with vague gestures, and a slight tilt of his head.

 ♠ The Mojave Revolver: Roulette's animate gun, which takes the form of a skull-shaped silver charm when inactive. Mojave acts as Roulette's voice, however it seems to take some cruel joy in deliberately misrepresenting what he wants to say.

 ♠ The Watcher: A figure that only manifests when Roulette is hunting his quarry. It is silent, unflinching, and strikes its prey like a rattlesnake.

Blacklight Dunes ✧
Roulette's kingdom. A sprawling landscape of desert, arid scrublands, mountains, mesas, and abandoned frontier towns, all bathed in eternal midnight. The towns and buildings are bleak and the wildlife is twisted, like a haunting gothic scrawl sprung to life from the trembling pen of a fearful scribe.

The lanterns and candles burn blacklight blue, and the sands are littered with glittering points of light. The animals that stalk the badlands are hollow shadows with gleaming blacklight eyes, except for the vivid glowing scorpions that ocassionally scuttle through the crooked black underbrush. Larger shadows- some in the shape of something almost human- may appear in the form of wandering gangs, attacking with shadow-bound revolvers that flash blue as they fire ghostly bullets.

Travelling too far in any one of the four cardinal directions will bring wanderers into the domain of one of Roulette's three emissaries, or to the home of Roulette himself.

 ♥ To the east is the domain of Deadwood, a bleak and dense marshland of overgrown trees and half-sunken shacks collapsing into the gloom. The Stygian himself rarely appears within his domain, instead hunting the middle-grounds with Roulette upon his back.
♦ To the north is the domain of Jackpot, a neon city of casinos and gambling halls, manned by ghostly beings that stare into the souls of all who gamble at their tables. It's owner can be found in the deepest layer of the city, where he is happy to host a wicked game for unsuspecting guests.
♣ To the south is the domain of Gotham, a single church in a vast expanse of dead grass, housing an infinite spiralling pit of stained glass and fire. It's overseer can typically be found at the pulpit, giving a devilish sermon to his demonic congregation.
 ♠ And finally, to the west, is Roulette's own homestead. It is isolated, hidden, and well guarded, seeming to manifest shadow bandits and wolves to frighten and disorient intruders, steering them away long before they've even realized what direction they were headed. Only Roulette's three emissaries seem to know how to get there, and refuse to divulge any information on how the place looks.

♰ Ill Omen: When entering the Kingdom of another, Roulette's Legendary Branch causes the sky to grow dim, as though the sun is setting, replacing any celestial body in the sky with a pale blue moon and blacklight stars. Beneath this moon, his hollow blue-eyed beasts emerge, hunting for their prey.
